Hugh Styles
Director and Coach

Sailing World Champion and Olympian turned elite coach, Hugh Styles is passionate about performance sport, and has been driving British Sailing Team athletes to multiple podium successes at Olympic level since 1996. Styles became the head coach for the RYA’s Laser Radial Squad in 2011, helping Alison Young to London 2012, the Rio Olympics and a Gold medal at 2016 World Championship. Since 2017 Styles had spearheaded the highly successful GBR NACRA 17 Squad, which has secured multiple World and European championship victories in the last 3 years.

One of the key ways he has achieved such success is in his unique expertise in improving an individuals Decision Making skills, allowing them to make the right decision, at the right time, regardless of the pressure.

As well as coaching on the RYA’s Podium Programme Styles has also nurtured sailing talents across the entire performance pathway including school, junior and youth squads.  He is also a mentor to young athletes through the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.

Hugh's background includes Olympic campaigns in the Laser and Tornado with  European and World Championship medal success.  On the professional circuit he has raced Grand Prix yachts, Extreme 40s and GC32 catamarans.  He is a fitness fanatic, constantly pushing boundaries and a passionate advocate of outdoor sports.  Hugh can often be found in his spare time windsurfing, cycling or competing in triathlons.
