Hugh Styles
Director and Coach

Sailing World Champion and Olympian turned elite coach, Hugh Styles is passionate about performance sport, and has been driving British Sailing Team athletes to multiple podium successes at Olympic level since 1996. Styles became the head coach for the RYA’s Laser Radial Squad in 2011, helping Alison Young to London and Rio Olympics and a Gold medal at 2016 World Championship. Since 2017 Styles had spear headed the World Dominating British Sailing Team NACRA 17 Squad, which has secured multiple World and European championship victories in the last 3 years.


As well as coaching on the RYA’s World Class Podium Programme, Styles has also nurtured sailing talents further down the performance pathway, including school, junior and youth squads as well as being a mentor to young athletes through the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.


Styles has a competitive background including Olympic campaigns in the Laser and Tornado, which heralded European and World Championship medal success, and on the professional circuit including Grand Prix racing yachts, Extreme 40 and GC 32 catamarans. He is a fitness fanatic and a passionate advocate of outdoor sports, especially windsurfing cycling and triathlons.
