Hugh Styles
Director and Coach
Sailing World Champion and Olympian turned elite coach, Hugh Styles is passionate about performance sport, and helping elite athletes to multiple podium successes.
Coaching at Olympic level since 1996 Styles has coached the British Sailing Team's Laser Radial squad since 2011, including the London Olympics in 2012, the Rio Olympics and a Gold medal at 2016 World Championship. Since 2017 Styles spearheaded the highly successful GBR NACRA 17 Squad, securing multiple World and European championship victories. At this summers Tokyo 2020 Olympics Hugh helped Josefin Olsson of Sweden win a fantastic Silver Medal!
More recently Hugh has been successful in helping Team Ceeref to success in the RC44 professional racing circuit. And helped the RTYC to a win a Silver Medal at the NYYC Invitational Cup 2021.
One of the key ways he has achieved such success is in his unique expertise in improving an individuals Decision Making skills, allowing them to make the right decision, at the right time, regardless of the pressure.
Styles also nurtures sailing talents across all levels including school, junior and youth squads. Back home in Lynington he is the Head Coach for the Royal Lymington Yacht Club Junior Section, as well as being a mentor to young athletes through the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.
Hugh's background includes Olympic campaigns in the Laser and Tornado with European and World Championship medal success. On the professional circuit he has raced Grand Prix yachts, Extreme 40s and GC32 catamarans. He is a fitness fanatic, constantly pushing boundaries and a passionate advocate of outdoor sports. Hugh can often be found in his spare time windsurfing, cycling or competing in triathlons.
