Keel Boat Programme:

Many sailors like dinghy sailing, but miss the cooperation and shared sense of achievement found in team games. Sailing in teams on bigger boats addresses this issue, big boat sailing demands high levels of commitment, communication, leadership, and shared responsibility.

The big bonus is that achievements on a big boat are fantastic evidence for future employers, Universities and Professions, competing in an event such as the Youth Keelboat Nationals, Cowes Week or Round the Island race demonstrate real skills of organisation, team work, time keeping and risk taking, and provide real proof to others of the depth of your skills.

Time on the Water uses Olympic coaches and sailors to help develop these skills, to act as mentors and role models, we use the RYA fleet of 2012 Olympic Elliot keelboats, and having sailed in these 4/5 person keelboats, we introduce the participants into racing and event management, with the objective of the team representing their sponsoring organisation in a major sailing event.

Successful younger candidates are also encouraged to progress onto the RYA portfolio of keelboat courses and opportunities, and our coaches are a great resource in helping this progression, you do not need any sailing experience to participate on these courses, just a desire to feel the excitement and energy of the sport at the highest level.
